Our Certifications and Pillars

For decades, we have been dedicated to providing high-quality herbs and products that are certified organic, sustainably sourced, and traded fairly. These guiding pillars are at the heart of how we operate and at the root of our motivation to pursue rigorous third party certifications.

Certified Organic

Organic farming prioritizes the health of the environment and the consumer alike, avoiding the use of potentially harmful synthetic chemicals and implementing practices that yield healthy, robust crops.

Our organically grown herbs are cultivated by farmers who emphasize the use of renewable resources and the conservation of soil and water to enhance environmental quality for future generations. USDA Certification is your guarantee that the herbs and products are produced without pesticides, chemical fertilizers, sewage sludge, GMOs, or ionizing radiation.

Trading Fairly

Trading fairly means that we are committed to supporting the social and economic well-being of our small farmers, suppliers, and producers. In practice, this includes meeting the ethical principles of fair pay, safe working conditions, environmental stewardship, and diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.

Our Fair for Life Fair Trade and FairWild certifications ensure that we uphold socially and environmentally responsible practices across our entire supply chain and within our entire business, including our farming partners, manufacturing partners, packers, and our own employees.

Sustainable Sourcing

Many widely used plants are threatened and in danger of being unavailable through extinction, over-harvesting, or changes in climate patterns. Banyan is working to reverse this trend through our commitment to sustainable sourcing and taking an active role in each decision that goes into the creation of a product. 

Our sustainable sourcing practices include tending to the earth, upholding environmental and social responsibility, increasing our sourcing diversification, and incorporating bioregional Ayurveda. Our ingredient-by-ingredient approach to sustainability, along with our Fair Trade certifications, ensure we are truly supporting the health of the plants, communities, and ecosystems we source from.

A key initiative currently underway is our membership on an industry-first, pre-competitive coalition, serving alongside other natural products companies to establish data on greenhouse gas emissions associated with the agricultural production of herbs, with a primary objective to reduce carbon emissions in the herbal supply chain and improve environmental standards for the industry.  

B Corp

In 2019, we proudly became a certified B Corporation®, joining thousands of other socially responsible companies who are using business as a force for good. The B Corp business model is based on what is known as the triple bottom line, meaning we prioritize people and planet as well as profit.

With this rigorous third-party certification, the nonprofit B Lab® inspects our entire company on a regular basis to ensure we meet their high standards of performance, transparency, and accountability. Our most recent recertification in 2023 earned us a B Corp impact score of 107.8 points, indicating that we are social and environmental leaders in the herbal and Ayurvedic products space.
